In a word, no. It’s much older. The current take on OK is that it is a corrupted abbreviation of standard English all correct, via its pronunciation as ‘orl korrect’. As Brett notes below, there was a vogue for such abbreviated terms at the time. It dates from 1839 in the US (the UK slang lexicographer J.C. Hotten has it – correctly etymologized – in his Slang Dictionary of 1864 but without reference to US origins. The term was used, and thus widely popularized, in the election campaign of US president Martin Van Buren in 1840, when it conveniently suited his nickname ‘Old Kinderhook’, based on the town of his birth Kinderhook, New York. It was further popularized by the OK Club, founded in 1840, whose members were Democrats who backed Van Buren. For a more detailed discussion of the subject, which still enjoys a wide, if ultimately pointless debate as to its origins, I would suggest a look at a number of articles by A. W. Read in American Speech (1963) vol. 38, (1964) vol. 39, etc.
