Men are asked to play a big role in caring for their infected wives said Minister of Health Dr Agnes Binagwaho

Men are asked to play a big role in caring for their infected wives in order to prevent the Mother-to-child transmission of HIV for their new born babies.

In the meeting, Minister of health Dr.Agnes Binagwaho has asked to set out the role of the men in Preventing Mother To Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT).

This meeting that took place this Wednesday in Lemigo Hotel, they showed the big range of 370.000 children who were born with HIV/AIDS infection in 2009 yet infected during the time of birth by their parents. And women who are between 42.000 and 60.000 who died due to HIV/AIDS while pregnant.

The role of preventing  a child from getting infected while it is in a womb is not the women’s role only but also  men are suppose to play that big role of preventing  children from acquiring HIV/AIDS from their parents during the birth says the Minister of Health Dr.Agnes Binagwaho.

Placide MUGWANEZA who is in charge of avoiding and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and other diseases in RBC (Rwanda Bio-medical Center) said comparing Rwanda and other neighborhoods  nations, Rwanda has made a big step in preventing and avoiding Mother-to-child transmission of disease and even avoiding HIV/AIDS transmission in general.

 

In the whole country 82% of the health centers, 450 health centers that are in Rwanda do tests HIV patients. And in a period of 18 months they found only 99 children who were born with HIV/AIDS.

Placide also ensured that at the end of this year all health centers in Rwanda will be given standard Laboratories of testing the patients of HIV.
