Background : Radio La Benevolencija (RLB) is a Dutch non-governmental organization working in Rwanda since 2004. The central mission of the organization is to empower groups and individuals that form the target of hate speech and ensuing acts, and to strengthen the population as a whole to resist incitement to violence.

The position : The Assistant Grassroots Coordinator is responsible for assisting with all grassroots activities at RLB under the supervision of the Grassroots Coordinator.

Main tasks and responsibilities :

Under the supervision of the Grassroots Coordinator, plan and coordinate the implementation of grassroots activities in compliance with RLB’s organizational strategy.

Participate in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of grassroots activities.
Moderate community discussions and debates in schools and universities using RLB media productions as facilitation tools.

Under the supervision of the Grassroots Coordinator, organize and facilitate training in RLB methodology for local stakeholders, grassroots groups, journalists.

Facilitate listening groups for RLB’s radio programmes.

Assist in the supervision and coordination of partner organizations in field locations around Rwanda.
Help to create and maintain effective working relationships with national and local officials and heads of technical services in the areas of intervention.
Prepare and submit reports for all activities carried out to the Grassroots Coordinator and the Head of Mission.
Perform any other duties as requested by the Grassroots Coordinator or the Head of Mission.

Essential skills and experience :

Hold a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Development, Social science or Psychology.
At least three years’ experience in the field of community education and conflict transformation.
Demonstrable experience in the use of participatory methodologies in grassroots work.
Experience in promoting inclusive and focused dialogue with community members.
Experience in delivering capacity building training to grassroots CSOs.
Be a team player, able to work across various departments and meet deadlines.
Possess excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Possess a driving license category B and C.
Fluency in French, English and Kinyarwanda

Desirable skills and experience :

Experience of working in the border areas between Rwanda, DRC and Burundi.
Experience in organizing road shows, theatre performances, community dialogue.
Knowledge of conflict issues in the Great Lakes region.
