Nubwo akanama gashinzwe impunzi mbere kari karatangaje ko Habinshuti atari umuyobozi mukuru muri guverinoma y’u Rwanda, inzego z’ubutabera muri Ottawa zajuririye icyo kemezo ziza gutsinda mu cyumweru gishize.

I am very much shocked and upset after reading the article above! I can’t believe people are allowed to write such rubbish when they know this could have much impact on someone life and his family.
I don’t believe any of it. I’ve got to know Jean Berchmans Habinshuti and his family, and I can honestly say they are very nice and the best people you will ever meet. I first came to know this family through her daughter that I met in the UK; I went to the same school and University with his daughter. We became friends and developed over the years a true friendship, what I could really call a great bond. Through his daughter, I got to know the whole family. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to get to know them. It’s been twelve years since I know them. And I have to say that article is rubbish and fabricated.
During the whole period of the genocide he and his family were hidding from place to place in order to survive the treats and killings of the militia Interahamwe due to the fact that this man was in opposition political part of the power at that time. So why is he now being accused to be one of those genociders!!!.
I know that Mr Habinshuti has worked in government before and after genocide 1994, even after the genocide he served as an MP (a member of National Assembly of Rwanda). He left Rwanda in 2011. So if he was a murderer as they are claiming….…why was he allowed to work in government for such long period of time? And why didn’t they arrest him then? Why now?
And the most interesting thing in Rwanda at that time (before 1994), being the first secretary to prime minister, such position would not give you any power to exercise any policy or any power influence, especially when you were in the opposition political party to the president at the time. And if it would have been the case that he had such power to make policies before the genocide, there is no way he could have been allowed to return serving the government for many years after the genocide
And the most upsetting rubbish and fabricated about this article was the fact they accused him of involvement of killing the hero Madame Agatha (Rwanda ex-premier Minister)! He has a good relation with her family, and to those who don’t even know, they are related. Agatha might have gone, but she left a big family behind including all her children who still alive and live in Switzerland and they are still much in contact and on good terms with Mr Habinshuti; I know this because I have met Agatha’s daughter while in Switzerland through this family. They wouldn’t allow continuing their friendship if they have any doubt he was involved in killing their mother.
Please comment anything to those who know this family or who are affected by this story, because whoever wrote those rumours, if he/she knew these people have a lot support, and that they are good people, it will stop continuing spreading such fabricated story.
I just wonder if this man wasn’t “Umuhutu”, will he be treated differently?! Because we keep hearing that in Rwanda now, everybody sees him/herself as Rwandan not Hutu or Tutsi as it used to be?? Well…It doesn’t look like it!
Jean Berchmans Habinshuti is retired, he was looking forward to spend the rest of his life in peace with his family; hence why he went to Canada to join his family. Therefore, I don’t understand why would anyone call him interahamwe?! He had no involvement whatsoever.
